Head of Digital Operations 

Location: London & remote (hybrid)

Duration: 3-5 Months

Rate: £540 per day

IR35 Status: Inside

Start: ASAP

 

Role Overview:

We require a Head of Digital Operations for our public sector client to provide interim cover for approximately 3-5 months.  You will be leading a newly created team bringing together service management technology and cloud operations, together with the management of all digital strategic support managed service providers including Service Desk, 2nd-4th Line Support, End User and Infrastructure Computing EUIC, network and connectivity management and leading an internal technical operations team.

As the Head of Digital Operations, you will be responsible for the operational effectiveness of all the clients Digital Estate; this includes availability, accessibility, reliability, security and operational effectiveness of all the clients digital systems, services and networks. This also includes ensuring that all digital service provision meets or exceeds the performance targets, service standards and the digital needs of the organisation.

 

Essential Skills & Experience required:

As the Head of Digital Operations you will possess the following:

Technology landscape: Able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the technologies and technical concepts required and how these fit into the wider technical landscape both internally/externally.

Possess a good awareness of:

All Microsoft tools, Operating systems and platforms

ServiceNow architecture, systems integrations and wider ecosystem

Cisco networking technologies

Monitoring, alerting, packaging and exposure management tools

Experience of infrastructure management within a cloud-based environment

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Act as a senior escalation point between internal teams and third-party suppliers

• Oversee incident management and service delivery requirements

• Work closely with two Team Leads (focused on delivery and instance requests)

• Manage supplier relationships, particularly across infrastructure and 2nd line support

• Support service management, operational delivery, and project initiatives

• Oversee the commercial aspects of operations

The team comprises of approximately 45 people.

- Service Management

- Operations

- Project Delivery

You will also works closely with the Deputy Director, who leads:

- Development

- Cloud Services

- AI / Data / Analytics

 

Technology Environment:

• Predominantly Microsoft ecosystem

• Azure (primary cloud platform)

• Cisco (networking)

• Autopilot (device management – laptops/mobile)

• ServiceNow, Power Platform, SharePoint (core platforms)

• On-prem infrastructure (limited – Nutanix hardware)

 

Key Requirements:

• Strong stakeholder management and supplier engagement experience

• Solid understanding of operational and service management environments

• Broad technical awareness (not hands-on, but able to support and guide)

• Ability to operate in a complex, multi-team structure

• Focus on team fit, communication, and cultural alignment
