Virtualisation Platform Engineer
Duration: 6 Months
Rate: £685.00 per day
Location: Manchester & Remote (hybrid working)
IR35 Status: Inside

Role Overview:
We require 2 experienced Virtualisation Platform Engineers for our higher education client to join their team within the IT Services department.You will form part of their high performing, collaborative technical team working on meaningful and high-impact projects. In this role you will be working on cutting-edge infrastructure, enable developer productivity and contribute to building scalable, secure and efficient systems.
As the Virtualisation Platform Engineer you will play a key role in designing, building and maintaining the platforms and tooling that support their infrastructure provisioning and delivery lifecycle.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to automate infrastructure, improve observability and implement best practices in VMware, Hypervisor and DevOps.
Essential Skills and Experience required:
As the Virtualisation Platform Engineer you will:
Posses proven experience as a Virtualisation Platform Engineer or a similar role
Have strong knowledge of On-prem virtualisation platforms and container orchestration
Proficiency with IaC tools and automation scripting (Bash, Python, etc.)
Experience with monitoring, alerting, and incident response systems
Passionate for engineering excellence and operational efficiency
Key Responsibilities include:
Build and maintain on-prem and cloud infrastructure (e.g., VMware Hypervisor, vSphere, OpenStack, AWS, GCP, Azure)
Deep Knowledge of O/S and networking principles is key for this role (Window, Linux, Firewalls & Load Balancers (Palo Alto, F5)
Manage containerised environments (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker)
Develop and optimise CI/CD pipelines
Ensure system reliability, scalability, and performance
Implement (IaC) Infrastructure-as-Code in terms Terraform and scripting etc.
Champion DevOps/SRE principles across teams
