Rate: £675 per day

Location: London or Manchester & remote (hybrid working)

IR35 Status: Inside

Role Overview:

A Site Reliability Engineer (SC Cleared) is required for our government department to be part of a multidisciplinary team developing and supporting the clients data hub which provides access to a variety of public sector data.

Duties include:

  • To be part of a multidisciplinary team developing and supporting their data hub
  • Write infrastructure as code using terraform or CloudFormation to ensure their infrastructure is consistent, reusable and reliable
  • Deploy and configure observability tools to enable the teams to identify and respond to operational issues quickly and effectively
  • Build CI/CD pipelines to enable the team to get code into production quickly and reliably
  • Provide daily support for their platform and tools to ensure they remain available, secure and robust
  • Participate in on-call rotations if necessary
  • Able to solve complex and interesting problems
  • Also to share your knowledge and expertise with your peers and the wider team to drive consistency and develop a culture of openness and learning
  • Provide technical leadership within the team and work alongside other team members to identify the best approaches and solutions

 

Essential Skills & Experience required:

As the Site Reliability Engineer (SC Cleared) you will possess the following skills and experience:

  • A deep understanding of Linux operating system internals and comfortable working with Linux virtual machines or containers
  • Proficiency in Python
  • Any knowledge of Ruby is desirable.
  • Strong experience working with infrastructure technologies such as databases, web servers, DNS, CDNs, reverse proxies, message queues and load balancers
  • Experience of building and maintaining services in the cloud (AWS)
  • Extensive experience of creating infrastructure as code using Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Experience of using container orchestration systems such as Kubernetes, ECS or serverless application design with AWS Lambda
  • Experience supporting large production services
  • Git experience
  • Experience of creating pipelines in a CI/CD tool like Github Actions or AWS Codepipeline
  • A strong understanding of security principles and how to keep large operational services secure
  • Any previous technical leadership experience e.g: have been a technical team lead or been responsible for a technical initiative.
